Here’s Life Africa’s Grace Works Conference Recap

November 13, 2017 By Dr John Binkley - Generational Equity

Dr. John Binkley recaps the first annual Grace Works Conference from Here's Life Africa.

Recently, Dr. John Binkley shared that he would be attending the first annual Grace Works Conference held by Here’s Life Africa on October 13 and 14, 2017. The event, emphatically titled ‘Here’s Life Africa Here in America,’ was held at the Hope Center in Plano, Texas, and was a pivotal two days in the development of Here’s Life Africa and the work it intends to do to spread the teachings of God.

Dr. Binkley has been a devoted director of the board for Here’s Life Africa for many years now, supporting its growth and participating in missions across Africa. He was privileged to both attend and speak at this initial Grace Works Conference, joined by several other influential speakers and champions of the Word of God. What resulted was a tremendously successful event, one that left all who attended closer to The Lord.

A Miracle

That was how the President of Here’s Life Africa, Andy Blakeslee, described this first Grace Works Conference, and Dr. John Binkley is in full agreement. At the event, speakers such as Dr. Binkley challenged all attendees to go deeper in their devotion to God and truly consider what He expects from you to reach the promised land at Heaven’s Gates.

Those of us privileged to be there discovered concepts of hope and faith that we had never previously considered. Even after years of ministry work across 66 countries, Dr. Binkley still revels in exploring his faith, always with the purpose of strengthening his ties to The Lord. All 60 attendees across both days could feel God’s presence throughout – a turnout that everyone hopes pleased Him.

But it was not just the spirit of God coursing through attendees that made this an especially miraculous event – it was donations made to Here’s Life Africa to support the organization’s cause. Reservations at the conference were completely free, but Dr. Binkley was delighted to learn from Andy that 14 of the attendees had been compelled to make commitments totaling over $240,000 – an astonishing figure and a testament to the impact this conference left on all who were there.

Of course, it is not the money itself that is miraculous, but the goodwill and heart it represents from the contributors. Both Dr. Binkley and Andy Blakeslee are fans of the verse Philippians 4:17 which sums up what donations such as this mean:

Not that I desire your gifts; what I desire is that more be credited to your account.

Therefore, it is not our desire for monetary gain but rather that your generosity goes toward your safe passage to Heaven. Dr. Binkley and all associated with Here’s Life Africa are deeply grateful and humbled by this support, and are thankful for all the great work it will allow in spreading Christianity in the remote regions of Africa.

Dr. John Binkley with Here’s Life Africa

While widely known for his role as Founder and Chairman of Generational Equity, Dr. John Binkley’s true passions are founded on his faith. This is why he is always eager to spread the message of God in any way possible, whether it is speaking to his son Ryan’s congregation at Create Church, to his presence on an ever-growing number of missions. Dr. Binkley is devoted to The Lord, and is proud to be affiliated to associations like Here’s Life Africa who share that vision.

It only takes 82¢ to start one African’s journey to a relationship with God and $500 to plant a church, which makes the money raised at this first Grace Works Conference all the more significant. Of course, if you would like to share in this spirit of generosity, you can also give to Here’s Life Africa through their website. Blessed be to all of you who do.

How to Achieve Fellowship with God

October 31, 2017 By Dr John Binkley - Generational Equity

Dr. John Binkley discusses how to achieve Fellowship with God in his sermon at Create Church.

On Father’s Day earlier this year, Dr. John Binkley was delighted to have the chance to speak to his son Ryan’s congregation at Create Church. This was part of the UnCommon series, which focuses on how to avoid “typical” relationship concerns by breathing life into them through The Lord’s Word. Therefore, Dr. Binkley centered his sermon on why you need fellowship between your friends, family, and with God, with aspects from his book, Character is King.

What does he mean by fellowship? Well, it is first important to distinguish that “fellowship” is not the same as “relationship.” Dr. Binkley had a relationship with his son Ryan the moment he was born, in the same way he had a relationship with his father. But fellowship requires effort, investment of time and diligence – that’s the foundation of a powerful bond.

Dr. John Binkley has this bond with Ryan through their shared values and goals. They both own and manage Generational Equity, one of North America’s leading middle-market M&A advisory firms, and their shared aim to grow the business helps forge their fellowship. It is the same in their relationship with God, as both are motivated through their faith to grow Generational Equity.

Uncommon – Part 1 – Dr John Binkley from Create Church on Vimeo.

Dr. Binkley also had fellowship with his father, who began his eternal life in Heaven a decade ago. His father was a remarkable man: starting in poverty during the Great Depression, and losing his mother when he was ten, he became a naval aviator, a vocalist, an accomplished orator, an athlete and the Head of his Church. While Dr. Binkley knew he couldn’t match his father’s adeptness in these areas, they shared a strong fellowship and he took two important lessons from him:

  1. Love the truth
  2. Dream big

Finding Wisdom Through Fellowship With God

Jesus answered, “I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.” – John 14:6

Dr. John Binkley took both these lessons to heart. He actively sought out the truth, and thus sought out God. Because God is the truth, which is why He can never deny Himself. Through a diligent, powerful fellowship with The Lord, Dr. Binkley carries His spirit, meaning he has access to truths and mysteries of this world and the next. Fellowship with God gives you access to His wisdom.

Now, it is important to define what wisdom is:

  • Knowledge is the acquisition of facts
  • Understanding is the interpretation of facts
  • Wisdom is the application of facts

Blessed are those who find wisdom, those who gain understanding, for she is more profitable than silver and yields better returns than gold. She is more precious than rubies; nothing you desire can compare with her. Long life is in her right hand; in her left hand are riches and honor. Her ways are pleasant ways, and all her paths are peace. – Proverbs 3:13-3:17

Now, who wouldn’t want the things that wisdom gives you? God rewards those that seek Him, because He is the truth. This means when you walk with Him, you are walking with the truth, and that will always validate you. Through Dr. Binkley’s fellowship with God, he found the wisdom to pursue and achieve his goals, because The Lord gave him the tools to realize his purpose.

All that was required was diligence, faith and fellowship with God, which is something all can have, but few actually fulfill. So be uncommon, be different, be who you were meant to be. Continue to seek the truth and work every day to maintain fellowship with God, and you will be rewarded to achieve your goals. It happened for Dr. Binkley and Ryan, and it can happen for you too.

You can find further insights on how to discover and achieve your purpose through God in Character is King. This contains universal truths for The Lord’s eternal plan for you, and provides a roadmap for fulfilling this.

Understanding the Business of Golf

October 13, 2017 By Dr John Binkley - Generational Equity

Golf is one of the greatest pastimes anyone can take up. That is according to Dr. John Binkley. With the attention devoted to his role of Chairman at Generational Equity and his work with numerous faith-based organizations, a few rounds of golf provide a welcome break for Dr. Binkley and his loved ones.

“I love golf. It teaches discipline, integrity and courtesy. Golf is a game of a lifetime. It takes a lifetime to learn it and it can be played for a lifetime. It is a game I can enjoy with our son and grandchildren even until I am age 100.”

As Dr. Binkley describes, golf is the game of a lifetime, for a lifetime. It is something that he can share with his family and friends, use to break the ice with fellow professionals, and develop as a player and a person.

Dr. John Binkley, Chairman of Generational Equity, discusses his passion for golf and the effect it can have on your business acumen.

But, can it have an impact on your business acumen?

Of course, in Dr. Binkley’s work with Generational Equity, many business owners are keen to move beyond their business to devote more time to their favorite pursuits, with golf high on that list. Because, after years spent building a company ready for a successful sale, what could be more rewarding than being able to enjoy as many peaceful afternoons on the course as you’d like?

Plus, as previously mentioned, it is a sport that teaches discipline, integrity and courtesy, which are essential attributes for success in business, especially when pursuing the optimal exit.

  • You need discipline to persevere through the months of collecting data and negotiations
  • You need integrity to ensure all information shared is honest and justifiable
  • You need courtesy to build strong relationships with business buyers

John Glozek Jr. found a similar connection between golf and business in his book Business Golf: Your Key to Business Success Through Golf. Here, Glozek describes his experience of using this sport to help him grow in his business pursuits, all the way to starting his own golfing magazine. For Dr. John Binkley, the golf course is a great place to meet with clients and colleagues to establish a rapport and make major breakthroughs. You’d be amazed what you can achieve after just 18 holes!

Finally, what makes golf a great tool for building essential business skills is how it helps you overcome challenges. Golf is not easy, and after many years on the green, Dr. Binkley is still finding ways to improve. It could mean better equipment, a smoother swing or a different approach, but he’s always looking for ways to advance.

For business owners, the mantra is pretty much the same. Dr. Binkley has put decades of effort into building Generational Equity into one of the leading middle-market M&A firms in North America. It didn’t happen overnight, and refinements continue to help grow the business to the next level. Dr. Binkley and his son Ryan (who is President & CEO of the firm) often share their thoughts on growing the company over a round or two.

No matter what industry your business resides in, you’ll make mistakes that you’ll want to take another swing at over the years. It all helps to build your formula for success. Whether it’s practicing the perfect putt, or finding the most effective way to limit expenses in your company, you need to be determined.

Start out on the course and see what you might be able to apply to your business. You’ll find there’s a lot more to this game than meets the eye.

Dr. John Binkley and Here’s Life Africa’s Work in Tanzania

October 6, 2017 By Dr John Binkley - Generational Equity

While highly regarded for his reputation as the Founder and Chairman of Generational Equity, Dr. John Binkley spends a significant portion of his time on essential ministry work worldwide. In fact, Dr. Binkley has traveled to over sixty nations for this work and has participated on over 100 mission trips since 1995. As such, he currently serves on the Board of Directors for several faith-based organizations.

One of these organizations, Here’s Life Africa, has been involved in hundreds of missions in the last twenty years across the continent. Its mission is to share The Lord’s word in the most remote villages and locations in Africa, sharing the wisdom of God’s teachings and establishing effective discipleship by training pastors and spiritual leaders. As one of the organization’s board members, Dr. John Binkley plays a key role in the direction and support of this movement.

Dr. John Binkley, Chairman of Generational Equity and Director of Here’s Life Africa, visited Tanzania recently as part of his global ministry work.

The spiritual home of Here’s Life Africa and the amazing work it does to educate people across the continent is Tanzania, a country in East Africa with a population of more than 52 million. This is because the organization was originally founded by American businessmen and Tanzanian church leaders. Modern Tanzania was formed in 1964 following the unification of Tanganyika and Zanzibar, and more than 100 languages are spoken in the country, including all four major language families in Africa.

Like the formation of the country itself, the Tanzanian church itself is deeply united, and a key reason for this is the work performed by Here’s Life Africa in the past generation. Recently, Dr. John Binkley joined the organization’s president, Andy Blakeslee, and Dr. Monroe Brewer on a mission to Tanzania, guiding 75 top pastors from the country’s 12 regions in a remarkable learning experience, including life development and leadership training.

This informative and spiritually motivating experience, which included a powerful speech by Dr. John Binkley, was just the latest in a long series of work performed by Here’s Life Africa in Tanzania over the past twenty years. Hundreds of two-man teams have systematically shared the organization’s enlightening Jesus Film, resulting in 26 million people accepting Christ into their lives. By spreading God’s Word diligently and firmly, Here’s Life Africa has helped to spread Christianity and the positive teachings of Christ.

Dr. John Binkley and Here’s Life Africa’s work in Tanzania is far from over, but this extension of faith and support for the nation’s church leaders and remote villages demonstrates the ministry’s continued success. Dr. Binkley remains committed to conducting important ministry work across the globe, and hopes to return to Tanzania again soon to continue Here’s Life Africa’s wonderful work on behalf of the church.

Generational Equity Closes Milestone 600th Transaction

August 30, 2017 By Dr John Binkley - Generational Equity

As the Founder and Chairman of Generational Equity, Dr. John Binkley has been fortunate enough to experience a number of great successes. Under his guidance, it has become one of the leading M&A advisory firms for privately held middle-market businesses, winning multiple awards from The M&A Advisor, Thomson Reuters, Inc. 500 and more. This trend has shown no signs of slowing in 2017, with Generational Equity recently ranked second by Thomson Reuters for deals closed in the U.S. valued up to $50 million for the first half of the year.

So, it is wonderful to celebrate another landmark achievement, as Generational Equity closed its 600th transaction at the end of June, representing nearly $4 billion in wealth released for clients. This level of deals closed is unmatched among M&A consultancy firms that specialize in the lower middle-market, a fact that Dr. Binkley is especially proud of.

Dwight Jacobs, one of Generational Equity’s most senior members as Executive Vice President, Mergers and Acquisitions, commented on this great accomplishment:

“Closing our 600th transaction is a significant achievement in our industry. But what is really most gratifying for us is that each of these transactions represents a business owner and the financial legacy for their families. We are honored that so many entrepreneurs have entrusted us with their businesses.”

When Dr. John Binkley built the foundations of Generational Equity, it was with one goal in mind: helping business owners throughout North America fulfill their goals and secure their family’s financial legacy. It is achievements such as this that demonstrate how many company owners the firm has supported through the M&A process, allowing them to exit their business for the optimal value.

This unwavering aim was highlighted by Ryan Binkley, Dr. Binkley’s son and the President and CEO of the firm:

“Our goal is to serve our clients by helping them both define and discover the life they want for themselves and their loved ones. It is a real honor and privilege to work with entrepreneurs to reach their dreams.”

With this latest feat, there is no doubting that Generational Equity has cemented its position of leadership among M&A advisory firms. The exemplary service and guidance the firm offers clients in building a buyer ready business and making deals that benefit both buyers and sellers means it will continue to help entrepreneurs across North America fulfill their ambitions.
